Singaporean Pop
It all started with Andy Warhol, who started taking popular brands and icons and displaying them on canvas in bright bold in your face colors. Thus was the term pop art was born. Andy took the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture and advertising to a new level.
In today’s modern world a new POP artist has emerged. Singaporean born Artist Andre Tan takes disparate images that he sees around him and portrays these on canvas. He takes cartoon superheroes, advertising and real life photographs and transfers them to canvas in bold exciting eye popping colors that have found their way into the homes of the rich and famous.
He does not paint as a critic of pop culture but he concentrates more on the composition. Andre takes the images he finds and using his own artistic flair to convey these images in his own way.
